Impacto Runs Winning Streak to 3 in Canada

Impacto didn’t make his career debut until April 2 of this year, as a 4-year-old, during the final week of racing at Tampa Bay Downs. He won that race by 4 1/4 lengths and was claimed for $10,000 by trainer Craig Smith.

The First Dude gelding has been racing at Century Mile in Canada ever since, and has racked up a record of 4-1-1 in seven starts north of the border, including victories in his last three tries, all in allowance optional claiming races. On Sunday, he went wire-to-wire going 6 1/2 furlongs, leaving the field in his wake via fractions of :21.27, :44.02 and 1:09.59, and coasting home by 1 1/2 lengths clocked in 1:16.47. He paid $4.10, and the check for $8,898 in U. S. dollars raised his total to $47,140.
