Taino House Wins for 11th Time, His Check Hardly Pays the Bills

With the record he’s racked up over his seven-year racing career, if Taino House had been competing at the country’s major tracks he would no doubt be in the $200,000-$300,000 range in the earnings department.

But after his career debut at Churchill Downs on May 22 of 2020, the Bahamian Squall gelding bred by Don Dizney has been toiling at such purse-starved venues as Lone Star, Remington, Turf Paradise, Rillito, Sunland, Sunray, Zia, Albuquerque, Grants Pass, and, most recently, Emerald Downs. There, he’s managed a record of 11-4-8 in 53 starts, with miniscule earnings of $97,835.

Kevin Krigger was aboard for the latest score for the 9-year-old gelding, in a race at 5 1/2 furlongs in which Taino House battled on the front end through fractions of:22.03 and :45.21, then drew off late to win by six lengths in 1:03.96. He paid $4.18 and earned another meager check of $4,845.
