Bahamian Squall: First Winner on New Year’s Day, Too

Emulating First Dude, Bahamian Squall began 2022 on a winning note, with Sierra Diamond going wire-to-wire over a sloppy track at Mahoning Valley.

The 4-year-old filly bred by Donald Dizney followed a pair of seconds with her fourth victory, a powerful performance under Luis Gonzalez. Sierra Diamond shot to the lead out of the gate and was in control throughout the six furlongs, winning by two lengths and paying $16.60. The winner’s share of $10,620 boosted her career earnings to $65,122.
