Conrado Knows How to Win, But Not to Cash

If Conrado was campaigning at North America’s premier racetracks and rolled up the record he has, the 5-year-old gelding would already be a member of First Dude’s $200,000 club. However, after his maiden-breaking victory at Tampa Bay Downs, his next seven have come at Presque Isle Downs, Turf Paradise, Grande Prairie and Lethbridge, where the purse structures are not exactly conducive to making owners rich.
Conrado’s latest score came at Lethbridge, in Canada, and the winning purse was $4,134 in Canadian dollars, and $3,022 in U. S. cash. Enough said.
Garfield Gordon was aboard the $9,000 OBS October yearling in the race at seven furlongs and he took Conrado wire-to-wire, clocked in 1:26.49. The gelding bred by Joe Arboritanza paid $4 after his 6 3/4-length score, and he raised his earnings to $75,204 on a record of 8-9-3 in 32 starts.
