First Dude Another Step Closer to 1,000 Victories

Fivefive Six Champ made it two victories in a row at Mahoning Valley, and First Dude is now just eight away from reaching 1,000 in his career.

Fivefive Six Champ went wire-to-wire under Erik Barbaran in a $25,900 allowance race at a flat mile, holding off three rivals in deep stretch and winning by a head in 1:42.57. The $165,000 OBS March 2-year-old bred by Tom McCrocklin shot to the front out of the gate and held a five-length lead before the field hit the backstretch. The margin increased to nine or 10 coming to the turn, before the field began to close the gap. The 5-year-old gelding appeared to be vulnerable as they neared the wire, but he held on gamely to win in a photo.

The $15,540 check raised Fivefive Six Champ’s career total to $79,060 on a record of 4-1-4 in 20 starts. He paid $3.60.
