First Dude Colt ‘Dominates’ at Monmouth Park

For the second straight day, Monmouth Park track announcer Frank Mirahmadi was able to put a good spin on a son of First Dude who was in the process of annihilating his rivals in the stretch. On Saturday, it was Baby Ice ‘clobbering the field,’ yesterday it was 2-year-old Pretty Dude ‘who absolutely dominated.’

Pretty Dude was breaking his maiden in his fifth start, becoming First Dude’s second 2-year-old winner of 2021, and 48th winner overall. In a family affair, the colt owned and bred by Bethany Ortega and trained by Leopoldo Ortega broke second in the two path, quickly went up to assume the lead as they reached the quarter in :22.73, and was in complete command for the rest of the six furlongs.

After a second-place finish in his previous start, Pretty Dude was sent off at 2-1 under Jorge Panaijo and paid $6; he was clocked in 1:12.10, and collected $15,000 for the Ortegas. He won by seven lengths with his rider never raising the whip, leading to Mirahmadi’s ‘dominated’ call.
