First Dude Winds Up 2023 with a Bang; Maryquitecontrary Wins 4th Stakes

    Maryquitecontrary closed out First Dude’s 2023 campaign on a high note, winning the $150,000 Rampart Stakes at Gulfstream Park for the second straight year and moving into fourth place on her sire’s progeny earnings list.

    The 4-year-old filly owned and bred by Ocala veterinarian Rod Lundock earned a check for $101,725, raising her career total to $599,805 on a record of 7-3-0 in 12 starts. With Luca Panici aboard, the four-time stakes-winner raced near the rear of the field early in the one-mile test, moved on the turn, came wide into the stretch and went on to score by a length in 1:38.16. She paid $4.60. 

    First Dude wound up the season with 93 wins and progeny earnings of $2,984,609, good for third place on Florida’s general sire list. It’s his eighth straight year in the top four. He goes into 2024 with earnings of more than $26 million, and with his runners having made 984 visits to the winners’ circle.
