Dan’s Candi Girl picked the perfect time to win her first race of 2026, the 7th at Turfway Park on March 18, which went off at 8:57. Three hours later, at midnight, the 6-year-old daughter of Bahamian Squall celebrated her birthday; she was foaled on March 19 of 2020.
Luis Contreras was aboard Dan’s Candi Girl, who went off as the 3/5 favorite in the race at six furlongs over the all-weather surface. Contreras sent her to the lead, and the mare bred by Linda Pastor never relinquished it, winning by 7 1/2 widening lengths in 1:12.38 under co-highweight of 123 pounds. She paid $3.46 and the check for $9,319 increased her earnings to $60,317 on a record of 2-4-1 in 12 starts.
Bahamian Squall has had just 15 runners so far this season but has seven winners, or 47 percent.
