Hay Hay Paula on the Doorstep of $200,000

Hay Hay Paula is a stone’s throw from reaching the $200,000 mark in lifetime earnings after her ninth victory, accomplished at Fort Erie racetrack.
The 7-year-old Bahamian Squall mare bred by Pamela Edel had Leo Salles in the irons for her 6 1/2-furlong trip, her first try around the Canadian oval. She broke last, then moved up to fifth along the backstretch, about five lengths off the pace. Salles sent her up on the outside on the turn and Hay Hay Paula responded with authority and proved best with a strong run to the wire, winning by half a length in 1:17.63.
She paid $9.70 and earned a check for $9,840 (Canadian) $7,141 (U.S.), raising her total to an impressive $199,399 on a record of 9-2-6 in 34 starts.
