Like Johnny Cash, Super Dude Has ‘Been Everywhere’

In the song “I’ve Been Everywhere” that’s currently being replayed on TV many times a day, Johnny Cash reels off the names of 92 cities, towns and countries he visited during his lifetime. If Super Dude could sing, his itinerary would include Laurel, Pimlico, Delaware, Belmont, Saratoga, Aqueduct, Gulfstream, Oaklawn, Churchill Downs, Parx and Colonial.

Unlike Cash, the 8-year-old First Dude gelding’s traveling popularity has been due to the many times he has been claimed during the span of his 44 career races.

The last barn change for Super Dude came at Parx on June 7 after he finished third for $10,000. Miguel Rodriguez sent him back in the sixth race at Parx yesterday and the new owner and trainer found himself still owning the gelding’s papers after Super Dude went wire-to-wire in a race at a mile and 70 yards. It was Super Dude’s first victory in six starts this year and raised his record to 10-7-10 in those 44 races. He became the 33rd winner of 2022 for First Dude and the stallion’s sixth runner with 10 or more victories.

Yesterday’s race, which Super Dude won by nearly three lengths, was worth $15,600 and increased the gelding’s career total to $437,170. Bred by Moreau Bloodstock International, he was a $200,000 OBS March 2-year-old, and is First Dude’s sixth highest earner.
