Orange Theory Wins by DQ in Canada; First Dude Passes $1.9 Million

It happened long after midnight in most of North America, but First Dude gained winner No. 52 for 2021, at the same time surpassing the $1.9 million mark in progeny earnings.

Orange Theory, a 3-year-old filly, scored her first victory of the year after finishing second at Century Mile Racetrack & Casino in Edmonton, Alberta, and having the winner disqualified and placed second. Run Lola Run, the 70-cents to a dollar favorite, was trying to go wire-to-wire in a race at one mile when Orange Theory, under Rafael Zenteno Jr., ranged up on the outside and was fouled in deep stretch, resulting in the stewards reversing the order of finish.

The First Dude filly earned a check for $7,824 in U. S. money; she has posted a record of 1-1-3 in her last five starts across the border.
