Running Memories Much the Best in $60,000 Gulfstream Park Handicap

The filly that Double Diamond Farm owner Donald Dizney purchased as a 2-year-old for $20,000 at the 2020 OBS July sale became Bahamian Squall’s leading money-winner yesterday with a near record-breaking performance at Gulfstream Park.

Running Memories first attracted attention when she broke her maiden by 2 1/2 lengths in her career debut, a $25,000 claimer at Gulfstream in February of 2021. After a fourth-place finish in the Melody of Colors Stakes in her second try, she rolled off a winning streak of three in a row.

Edgar Perez was aboard yesterday in the $60,000 Golden Beach Handicap at ‘about’ five furlongs on the grass. Running Memories broke quickly from the No. 7 post and tracked Miss Auramet in second through a :21.44 quarter. Perez sent her after the 3/5 favorite on the turn, and Running Memories coasted to the lead in mid-stretch, then drew off to prevail by 1 3/4 lengths. The $36,000 winner’s check raised the filly’s earnings to $205,125 on a record of 6-2-1 in 13 starts.

Running Memories was clocked in :55.97, just 36-hundredths of a second off the course record. She paid $11 and received an Equibase ‘E’ speed figure of 103, second best of her career.
