Spirit Wind Romps at 1/5 in Lone Star Stakes

Bahamian Squall’s leading money-winner, Spirit Wind, was a mile the best in the $100,000 Memorial Day Sprint Stakes at Lone Star Park, adding $59,100 to her growing bank account, which now stands at $447,790.

With Hall of Famer Mike Smith aboard in the six-furlong test, the 5-year-old mare bred by Jacks or Better Farm, the 1/5 favorite, stalked the quick early pace (:21.77, :44.22) in third down the backstretch, went after the leader on the turn, and ran away late without opposition to score by 3 1/2 lengths in 1:09.37.

Spirit Wind is now a four-time stakes-winner, with a formidable record of 6-2-1 in 11 starts. Bahamian Squall is currently 12th among active stallions on Florida’s leading sire list for 2024, and is less than $16,000 away from reaching $4 million in lifetime progeny earnings.
