Vasquez the Right Medicine for Survival Rose

In her last five races prior to her foray in yesterday’s second race at Tampa Bay Downs, all Survival Rose had produced for owner/breeder Clinton Bagwandeen was three thirds and two fourths. But a switch to regular Gulfstream Park ace Miguel Vasquez, in Oldsmar for the day, was all the 3-year-old Bahamian Squall filly needed to nail down her second career victory.

Off third down the backstretch in the six-furlong test, three lengths off the battling leaders, Vasquez began his move coming to the turn and Survival Rose came off the rail into the three path for the run down the lane. Under strong handling by Vasquez, she took the lead nearing the wire and went on to score by a length, clocked in an excellent 1:11.01, resulting in an Equibase ‘E’ speed figure of 75, 15 points higher than her previous best.

Survival Rose paid $6.40 and collected a check for $15,550, lifting her career total for 11 races to $43,350.
