Dye Scores on 3 Fronts with First Dude Colt

Bold Majestic made a monster run in the final sixteenth of a mile to break his maiden in the seventh race at Tampa Bay Downs yesterday, giving First Dude winner No. 18 this year and tying him for second in that category among all Florida sires.

Steve Dye scored a triple on the race, earning $11,250 as Bold Majestic’s owner, adding a breeder’s award, and not having to pay a trainer, since he also conditions the 3-year-old colt.

Dye apparently has had high hopes for Bold Majestic, who went his first six races at Gulfstream Park and Tampa posting just one fourth, three sixths, a seventh and a ninth. Yet, the colt was still in for a $32,000 tag in try number seven. With Mario Fuentes aboard, Bold Majestic sat fifth under a stranglehold along the backstretch in the one-mile race on the grass, went four wide on the turn to reach contention, then rolled past the leaders late to score by a length, clocked in 1:37.22 and paying $9.60.
