Starship Renegade Heading for Banner Season

Starship Renegade is five years old and has made just career six starts, but he continues to impress with every effort.

The son of First Dude, trained and co-owned by South Florida veteran Steve Dwoskin, boosted his ballooning record to 3-2-0 yesterday at Gulfstream Park, winning an $86,000 allowance optional claimer under Miguel Vasquez with another strong come-from-behind performance.

Starship Renegade, who was bred at The Acorn by Bill and Lynn Rainbow, settled into fifth place on the inside early in the race at 6 1/2 furlongs, about four lengths behind the battling leaders. Vasquez sent him between horses on the turn, then four wide entering the stretch, and his mount was up in the final strides to score by half a length in 1:16.39. Starship Renegade paid $7.20 and the juicy check for $53,000 increased his earnings to $103,320.

First Dude’s progeny earnings soared to $622,170 and his average earnings per starter of $11,739 leads all Florida stallions with at least 10 runners.
