In her first five starts, the best First Hathor could muster up for owner/breeder Endsley Farms was a trio of fourth-place finishes. But she came back in her sixth try at Tampa Bay Downs and broke her maiden with a strong run through the lane.
The 3-year-old First Dude filly had Sam Marin in the irons for the trip at a mile and 40 yards, and Tampa’s leading rider did what he does best, nurse her along off the pace, then close with a rush. She was 1 1/4 lengths in front at the wire and it was another 10 1/2 lengths back to third.
First Hathor was clocked in 1:43.71, paid $5.40, and Endsley collected $14,050 for the maiden-breaker.
