A well-timed ride by Jose Morelos resulted in First Dude getting his 24th winner of 2022 at Gulfstream Park yesterday.

Sandy Dude broke alertly from the No. 6 post and Morelos settled the 4-year-old gelding in third down the backstretch, four lengths from the two battling leaders. After a quarter in :22.69 and a half in :45.37, Sandy Dude closed the gap quickly, went wide into the stretch and won the three-way charge to the wire, scoring by a length in 1:24.64 for the seven furlongs.

The victory was worth $12,900 to owner/breeder Hart Breeders with Sandy Dude breaking his maiden in his 18th try. He paid $21 and lifted his bank account to $39,000.
