Thistledown Jury Opts for Dudes Lawyer; She Pays $3.40

First Dude’s runners pushed the son of Stephen Got Even over the $800,000 mark in progeny earnings yesterday, led by the 5-year-old mare Dudes Lawyer, who scored by 1 1/4 lengths at Thistledown, her first victory of 2022.

Yarmarie Correa was aboard Dudes Lawyer, who left quickly from the No. 4 post in the race at 5 1/2 furlongs and joined 9/2 shot Treasured Nikky in a head-to-head battle through quarters of :22.84 and :47.24. On the turn, Correa let her mare loose and Dudes Lawyer coasted to the lead and was never seriously threatened in the run to the wire.

Following a second-place finish in her previous race just eight days earlier, Dudes Lawyer was the 3/5 favorite and paid $3.40 while earning a check for $7,320, which increased First Dude’s total to $808,025. He now has 23 winners this season.
