First Dude’s 38th Winner of 2022 is Well Played

In his July 16 career debut at Century Mile, Well Played went off at odds of 13-1 and raced evenly, finishing a non-threatening third by 11 3/4 lengths before being moved up to second when the runner-up was disqualified.

Based on that effort, though, the 2-year-old First Dude gelding was well-played in his second try at Assiniboia Downs yesterday. With Dwight Lewis aboard, Well Played was an easy winner in the $20,000 maiden special, scoring by 4 1/4 lengths and paying $5.40 as favorite. He negotiated five furlongs in 1:01.40, becoming First Dude’s first 2-year-old winner this year while collecting $12,000 in Canadian money, $9,347 in U. S. funds.

Well Played also became winner No. 38 for First Dude, who remains tied for second in that category among all Florida stallions.
